A few months ago, as I sprawled out on my sofa during my children’s nap time, I was doing what every woman does, scrolling through Pinterest. I was pinning away recipes I’ll probably never bake, in the kitchen I may never build, decorated with items that are way out of my price range; but I was living the good life, one pin at a time. Then, like magic, a pin appeared on my feed: a favorite things party.

“Well well well, whatever is this favorite’s things party?”

I clicked.

I was in gift exchange heaven.

Some woman, somewhere, came up with the brilliant idea to get her girlfriends together with wine and food, and then swap all of their favorite things. #sold

After browsing through her party pictures, I immediately reached out to my unbelievably gifted party planning friend, Laura (you can check out all of the fabulous things she puts together over at Laura Cadenhead). If there is anyone who can turn my ideas into something beautiful, it’s her! Did I mention you can hire her? Well, you should – she’s that good.

Moving on.

It didn’t take long to sell her on the idea, and before you knew it, my girlfriends and I had thrown our first official (hopefully annual) Favorite Things Holiday Party!

Talk about a winter wonderland. Laura totally aced the perfect indulgent girls night in! What else do you need when you have bite-size desserts and your own hot chocolate bar??

Along with our miniature delicacies, which were absolutely incredible (my favorite were the cream puffs…you would have thought you died and went to dessert heaven), I volunteered my baking skills and whipped up a white chocolate raspberry cheesecake.

Seriously though…AMAZING. I think it goes without saying, should I ever make a cookbook filled with Pinterest spinoffs, this is will be the image I use in the author’s bio.

Want to throw your own Favorite Things Party? Don’t worry, I’ve got you covered – here’s how:

  1. Group text your closest gals.
  2. Pick a date.
  3. Choose the location.
  4. Set a price limit.
  5. Pick one of your favorite things (and bring one for each friend).
  6. Attend party and exchange your favorite thing for everyone else’s favorite things.

Need a little inspiration for gift ideas?

For my favorite thing, I brought one of my absolute favorite coffee mugs, created by Nicole Blanton from Hashtag Blessed. Back in September I shared with you guys my one-on-one interview with this witty momma of two (found here). I received such awesome feedback on these mugs, I HAD to share them with ladies in my life.

In exchange, I received some amazing goodies. From sunglasses to all natural bath products, I was more than thrilled with our gift exchange.

One of the coolest gifts I received in return was The Lettermate. I used this nifty gadget to address all of my Christmas cards this year; and if it wasn’t for a friend sharing it with me, I would still be addressing envelopes with slanted handwriting (just another reason to throw your own Favorite Things Party).
