It’s fairly obvious that I have been totally absent from the blog these past few weeks, and while I absolutely love writing, I can sincerely say that I have not regretted the daily distractions that have kept me away. So what my attention has been on lately?

1. My kiddos.

Amber Lately

My seriously addictive, squishy, snuggly, giggly, always covered in drool kiddos. We have been on the go constantly; and when we aren’t seeking new adventures, digging up dirt, and feeding turtles, we have been soaking in every playfully lazy moment possible.

Now that Emmett is walking all over the place, that boy keeps me on my toes. After his birthday last month, it’s like a light switch went on, and he is signing, chatting away, and always wanting me to read him books – and what that baby wants, that baby gets!

Noah is also going through an incredible spurt, and wanting to learn and do things all on his own. It’s heartbreaking (because I want him to be a baby forever), but completely rewarding when I watch him master a new skill like getting undressed alone or cleaning up his toys before bed.

2. Getting my home in order.

We moved into our new home last May, and I still have stuff in boxes sitting in what is supposed to be our guest room. I’ve been so wrapped up in anything and everything, that I just haven’t bothered with unpacking the items that we don’t use regularly. So I have finally decided that if I haven’t unpacked it in a year, then I probably don’t need it. This whole train of thought sparked a desire of my inner OCD self to do an entire home purge (yes, I am crazy). To guide my insane discarding binge, I used ‘The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up‘.

If you haven’t read this book, I sincerely suggest you pick it up. While it can be a bit time consuming, I have already gotten rid of over 500 items that I never thought I had to donate or sell. Talk about #winning.

3. Reading.

Since I’ve become a mom, I can honestly say that reading has been pushed to the bottom of my priority list. Over the past couple of months however, it has really started bothering me that I’ve put my previously beloved hobby on the back burner; and now that I’m a stay at home mom, more than ever I need to be reading (otherwise my brain may turn in to jell-o at any given point). So here is what I’ve had my nose in lately:

4. Snapchat.

Holy cow…why is Snapchat so addicting?? I could watch video clips of people’s lives all day long (and I do). I used to be anti-snapchat, but it has turned in to such a fun way to keep up with what’s going on in people’s everyday lives that I am now obsessed. I love feeling connected to friends, fellow bloggers, and even celebrities day-to-days. I get ideas for recipes, outings with my kiddos, and even makeup tips regularly, and I love it.

In fact, if you’re an addict to, you should probably follow me on Snapchat and we can be friends!

5. Resting.

I am notorious for going nonstop. It is actually mentally and physically impossible for me to sit and rest all day long. Right now, I’m learning how to develop a balance between running myself into the ground and listening to my body when it needs to recuperate; and for the past two weeks, it’s needed a serious break.

So what’s been keeping your attention lately? Any good books I should add to the list? Oh, and if you live in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, are there any places I should check out with my kids (they are 2 and 1)? I appreciate any and all suggestions!

  1. Sometimes is good to get away from blogging and just enjoy the beauty of relaxing and playing with our kids. I have taken breaks from blogging and I have not regretted it once, so I’m with you! Your boys are adorable! I also just started following you on Snapchat and yes it is so addicting , haha!

  2. Don’t give yourself a hard time for taking time away from blogging. Your family is the most important thing and you have a lot on your plate. With taking care of the kids, spending time with them and getting your new home in order, its a lot. Not to mention all the other things on your list. I have heard that the tidying up book is really good. I need to read it myself. Your kids are beautiful, enjoy the time with them and the little interruptions.

    • Thank you so very much, Christine!! I sincerely appreciate your sweet words and encouragement. And yes, you have to check out the book – it’s incredible!

  3. Good for your for having your priorities in the right order ! It’s sometimes hard to do, but very necessary. I’m probably going to have to do the same thing here, pretty soon. 🙂

  4. Sounds like you needed the rest and all good reasons for stopping and taking time for you. I used to read all the time and now, reading a book a month seems difficult. It’s funny a friend of mine just had her first baby and she was like i figured six week of maternity leave I would be reading so much but all we do is Netflix. Her daughter is so well behaved so it wasn’t even like “Can’t read because of crying” it was just like “i’d rather look at you and the tv” lol Welcome back!

    • Haha…yes. By the end of the day all I want to do is turn my brain off, but I really do get so much joy from reading. It’s definitely good to be back, Dia! 🙂

    • I know, I know – I’ve missed you too! And you definitely need to check it out, I’ve been getting rid of thing left and right – things I didn’t even know I had to get rid of!

  5. okay so I have heard all about snapchat, but haven’t fully checked it out and you have just confirmed that I should stay away!!! I already have enough issues with the youtube/instagram vortex… I do not need another thing! haha thanks 🙂

  6. Love this. My mini-me has been keeping all my attention for the last 5 days, since we are in the middle of potty training. Potty training is a life sucker … and I so need a spa day after this is all over and done with 🙂 Your babies are adorable by the way!

    • No kidding, Jasmin!! We haven’t officially started yet, but I’m just mentally preparing myself to be completely M.I.A. for awhile. And thank you so much! 🙂

    • Thank you so much, Heather! I just feel like when I get totally wrapped up in random things that distract me from my top priorities, I just have to remind myself that time with the babies is short-lived, and to soak it in while it lasts!

  7. It sounds like it was just the break you needed and those kiddos are adorable. I’m keeping away from snapchat though, I would get totally addicted!

    • YESSSS!! Now that I’ve started reading it, I seriously can’t stop getting rid of stuff. Just today I took back eight things to Hobby Lobby that I hadn’t put to use yet!

  8. This was such a relatable post!! As wonderful as blogging is…sometimes it’s nice to just take a break and give all our focus to some other things. Family over everything 🙂 (which btw, your babies are presh!!!). Thank you for sharing a piece of your journey, I loved every bit!! -xx Anna
