When I say that I love what I do, that is a total understatement. Why do I love blogging? I make my own hours, I can work from home, and I have one seriously awesome employer. She’s funny, sweet, and makes one killer cup of joe.

Aside from all of that, I have the opportunity to partner with some ridiculously amazing individuals. From small business owners to fellow bloggers, and everyone in between, my days (and nights) are filled with interactions from people who will blow your mind and win your heart. They are smart, witty, and down right bosses when it comes to what they do.

So what does that mean for Amber Lately readers?

It means you get a front row seat to exclusive meet and greets with these oh-so-fabulous entrepreneurs, oh…and free stuff. That’s right, free stuff.

Sounds like you’re winning to me.

This week, I have the absolute pleasure of introducing you to one incredible Momtrepreneur. Not only is Miranda a new mom to a baby boy, this gal is a business owner and mastermind behind not one, but TWO small businesses!! If that isn’t impressive enough, Miranda and her family have decided to take the purchases from one of their small businesses and give back to the community in a truly heart-warming way.

Keep reading to find out more!

Name: Miranda Winslett
Business: The Wild Rumpus

Tell us a little bit about yourself: I’m Miranda. I am married to my high school sweetheart. He’s the other half of The Wild Rumpus – handling all of the business side allowing me the freedom to create. However, the greatest work we have ever done is our precious son. Born on the 4th of July of this year, he has definitely added fireworks to our lives. We live just south of Atlanta with two very spoiled fur babies.

What is the story behind The Wild Rumpus and how it began?: Unfortunately, during my last trimester of pregnancy I developed preeclampsia. It took a nasty toll on my body. Despite our best efforts, our sweet boy had to be delivered early. He was born at 1:03 a.m. on July 4th – hitting the 37 week gestation mark by one hour and three minutes. Like most preeclampsia babies, he was small – weighing in at 4 lbs. 15 oz. He spent five days in the NICU as a late-term premature baby with respiratory issues.

Once he was finally home with us, I wanted to create a special keepsake from his hospital receiving blanket. It was the first piece of him we got to bring home so the dogs could smell him. When it was time to bring him home, it kept him warm and snug in his carseat. I made it into a stuffed elephant which now sits happily on a shelf in his nursery. It will be something I put away later on and will pass down to his first child. I enjoyed making his keepsake elephant so much I tried my hand at some other stuffed animals and absolutely fell in love! Thus, The Wild Rumpus was born.

During our hospital stay, a blanket from Project Linus lined our little guy’s incubator. So, The Wild Rumpus has decided that for every softie or doll sold from now until December, one blanket will be donated to a NICU baby through partnership with Project Linus. It’s just our small way to give back.

What do you love most about running your own business?: I guess you could say I’m a little addicted to being an entrepreneur. I’m going on my fourth year strong of running my first business, PaperLark Studio, which offers stationery goodies. Adding The Wild Rumpus to the mix was a no-brainer. While my reasons for running my own business(es) has evolved over the years, my love for the freedom it allows me has always remained the same. It gives me the freedom to work when and where I want. It gives me the freedom to create what I want.

What is the single best piece of advice you have been given about starting and running your own business?: The best advice I’ve ever been given in my years of entrepreneurship is: Do not compare your beginning to someone else’s middle. For some reason, I think we all struggle with this. It’s so easy to fall into the trap of comparing ourselves (and our businesses) to someone else especially when we see that someone succeeding. It can be downright discouraging.

If you’re just starting out, don’t compare yourself to someone who has had 10 viral blog posts or a maker whose shop has 1,000 sales and you’re waiting for your first. Just like you, they started somewhere.

How do you like to spend your free time?: When I’m not designing invitations or sewing doll limbs, I like spending time with family, scouting out arts and craft fairs, and working on various craft projects. I’m currently working on a felted advent calendar for the holidays!

(Speaking of the holidays, check out these adorable Christmas minis. Did I mention these make the perfect stocking stuffer??)

Favorite food: Anything pasta! I’m an unashamed glutton for Italian food.
