Noah has been talking about going to school for months now, and the big day has finally arrived. I was so nervous and excited that I woke up at 6:00am just to make sure we had everything in order. Keep in mind, this is only a Tuesday/Thursday morning preschool, but we clearly still needed the best snacks packed, and pictures taken.
As soon as we got out of the car, Noah insisted that I put his backpack on him, and he marched me right into the school. I think I was expecting for things to be more difficult, but I showed him the bathroom, his locker, and then he was gone. JD actually had to tell him to come back to give me a hug and a kiss.
Since we live about 30-40 minutes away from the school, I thought it would be easier to just spend the day around Fort Worth instead of driving all the way home just to have to turn back around to pick him up. So Emmett and I went to the park for a bit, and then ran some errands. It was weird driving around without Noah in tow – kind of like I was missing a limb. And while I am unbelievably grateful for the one-on-one time I now get to have with Emmett, we both definitely missed having big brother with us.
Three hours crept by, and I was one of the first parents there to pick up (lame…I know). The teachers started letting the kids come out as they noticed the parents arriving, and they would all run up to their moms, greeting them with big hugs. Then Noah comes out. The kid sees me and then literally sits down in the middle of the hallway. I walk up to him and he tells me, “I don’t wannu leave. I wannu stay.” I had to bribe him with food just to get him into the car.
So, as a fun way to remember Noah’s first day of school, I thought I would ask him a couple of questions to see how they change over the next 16 years.
How old are you: I’m two.
What is your favorite food: ice cream.
What is our favorite toy: cars.
What do you like to do for fun: I’m about to go to the libing room. (He’s a simple man.)
What is your favorite color: I like blue and bubby likes red.
What do you love most: milk.
I am so crazy happy that we had such a smooth first day, because truthfully, I was incredibly nervous. I’m also super proud of Noah for rockin his first day like total champ. So here’s to all you mama’s out there who just sent their babies off to their first day of school – you’re all rockstars in my book! 🙂
